When you arrive in Punta Licosa you will immediately notice why its beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy. You can reach it with a fresh and fragrant path through a pine forest, and suddenly this pristine beach paradise will open up in front of you. The sand is white and the water is very clean. All around, to protect the beach, there is a lush and wild nature. If you love diving, the coves of Punta Licosa will make you dream. You will also be able to see the incredible remains of a submerged Roman villa. From the beach you will then find yourself in front of an islet, called Licosa. It is said that it was named after the mermaid Leucosia, who died of love by jumping from a cliff and whose body turned into a rock. Legends are the order of the day in Cilento, so be prepared to hear all the colors during your tour.

A place where reality meets myth and which even takes its name from myth. Palinuro was the helmsman of Aeneas, who fell into this sea and left his name to the locality. Legend aside, we are here in one of the unmissable centers of your Cilento itinerary. Among the most beautiful things you can appreciate in Palinuro is its position. The promontory of Capo Palinuro, which falls sheer above the sea, offers unforgettable panoramas on the coast. And going downwards you will find yourself catapulted into a real fairy-tale paradise. The rocky coast is in fact a flourishing of caves, within which the light that filters, gives optical effects and colors difficult to find elsewhere. What about the blue waters of the Blue Grotto? The temptation to immediately run away for a swim is strong, but wait to get to know the beaches of Palinuro too. One of all, the Natural Arch beach. Enjoy the sunset with its shades through the natural arch, which is practically straddled between two beaches and which is one of the symbols of Palinuro. An expanse so beautiful as to be chosen as a set of many films inspired by the myths of Hercules and the Titans.

Recognized in 1998 as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Certosa di San Lorenzo, also known as the Certosa di Padula is certainly one of the most beautiful places in the province of Salerno.

The beautiful Certosa di San Lorenzo makes the Municipality of Padula the main destination for religious tourism in Campania as well as being among the most evocative monuments of the Italian artistic heritage.

The architectural style is almost predominantly Baroque, in fact there are very few surviving fourteenth-century traces. The complex has about 350 rooms and occupies an area of 51,500 m² of which 15,000 are occupied only by the cloister, the largest in the world. The Certosa di San Lorenzo, thanks to its vast extension, is second only to the Certosa di Grenoble in France.

The Certosa di Padula, the monastery It is possible to divide the architectural layout of the Certosa di Padula into two areas: the first includes the workplaces while the second is the residence area of the monks. The structure of the Charterhouse, as for all the other Charterhouses, follows the Carthusian rule, that is the rule that preaches work and contemplation. Precisely for this reason there are different places in the Charterhouse for their implementation: the cloister, the library, where it is still possible to admire the floor made of Vietrese ceramic tiles, the Chapel decorated with precious marble, the large kitchen, the large wine cellars, the laundries and neighboring fields where the fruits of the earth were grown for the sustenance of the monks. Despite in the Church as in other places of the Certosa di padula, the numerous empty spaces testify to the suppression of the Certosa by the French in the early nineteenth century, which caused the dispersion of numerous artistic treasures, the Certosa di Padula is a symbol of great architecture beyond that of a great past.

How to reach Padula Charterhouse?

The town of Padula and the respective monastery of San Lorenzo can be reached by car, for those coming from the North, along the Salerno – Reggio Calabria motorway, take the Padula – Buonabitacolo exit, and then continue along the national road SS 19. The the nearest railway station is that of Sicignano degli Alburni.

The Persano Oasis is a wetland of international importance, according to the Ramsar Convention, located in Campania. The animal symbol of the Persano Oasis is the otter, which hides in the thick poplar grove and among the willows along the river. Established in 1980 and managed in agreement with the Right Sele remediation consortium. The oasis encompasses an area of about 300 hectares, included in the largest area, subject to a landscape and fauna constraint of 3,400 hectares since 1977. Several precious specimens of flora and fauna find their ideal habitat in the oasis: wild orchids, cattails, daffodils, yellow irises that color the arboreal landscape made up of black and white poplars, ash trees and Fraxynus oxicarpa; black alder willows and reeds characterize the hydrophilic forest, a marshy environment that favors the nesting of different species of waterfowl, such as kingfisher, dipper, cormorant.

Like fauana, in addition to the otter, the oasis of the weasel, the skunk, the badger, the wild boar flock.

There is also no lack of fish fauna, such as the Apennine arborella. And despite being a protected area, the oasis is accessible through various nature trails, as demonstrated by the visitor center inside and the different observation huts.

The Oasis, open all year round, has a visitor center with a reconstruction for educational purposes, of a Paleolithic village. The path along the left bank of about 1 km and a second path of 400 m. All along the route there are eight observation huts. Two other observation points are located on the right bank of the Sele, one in the industrial area of Campagna and another at the mouth of the river Tenza, a tributary of the Sele.

We are in Casaletto Spartano, a small village with just over 1,400 inhabitants, which houses one of the most beautiful naturalistic treasures of our beloved land. They are the Hair of Venus, a wonderful waterfall that comes from the waters of the Rio Bussentino, a tributary of the Bussento river whose underground path is the source of Morigera. To get there, just take the freeway that from the Buonabitacolo motorway junction takes you to Caselle in Pittari. Taking this exit you will have to travel the provincial road to Casaletto Spartano. The path, fairly simple and with little traffic, will give you a taste of the beauty of these places: tall pine trees, green flora and a dense undergrowth will be a prelude to the show that awaits you.

Following the road signs, or perhaps asking the old men in the village, getting to the hair falls of the Venus hair will not be difficult at all. The waterfalls build a play of lights, refractions and flashes with water, moss and steam. The show is truly almost unique and we are sure that you will be enchanted for a while. If you happen on a hot summer day, we recommend a bit of refreshment under the waterfall whose waters, we tell you right away, are at a temperature of about 6-8 degrees. Between slightly slippery rocks and a few flowers of water here and there, you will find yourself in contact with a luxuriant and bright green nature even in the height of summer. Yes, because this is one of the most humid places in Cilento and it is not surprising to find real moss cushions along the bed of the Rio Bussentino, or on the branches of the trees that touch the water. The path to take may be quite long and very short, it’s up to you to choose. You can go up the stairs protected by the fence to get up to the source, or stay on the path and get to the oasis equipped area for a quick packed lunch near the mill in use until the 1950s. We definitely recommend that you stay a little on the beach that the water created shortly after the largest waterfall in the river. Here the temperature is slightly lower because the vegetation is more dense and the sunlight passes with greater difficulty. The more adventurous among you will be able to walk the river by walking in his bed, finding a way to ignore the cold water that will seem to freeze your legs at times. You will discover hidden ravines, small waterfalls that merge between foliage and pebbles, colorful flowers and dragonflies with gigantic proportions. You will find someone asleep along the shore who will have soaked a giant watermelon and a few bottles of beer. You will wake him up with your cackling (frost in the legs causes these effects) and a little annoyed he will look at you sideways as if to go screaming further. Certainly a visit to the Hair of Venus is a must for anyone who comes to Cilento and wants to spend a different day than the one on the beach. It doesn’t matter that you come there even in winter: you certainly cannot swim, but the water show is still guaranteed. A place that enchants first the soul and then the eyes, and Venus does not only have hair, but all the beauty of the most hidden and mysterious Cilento.

Despite the passing of the years and the arrival of tourists, we like Acciaroli because it has remained one of those authentic places. The spirit of the ancient fishing village can still be felt in the alleys and small shops of the center, giving moments in which to forget all the stress and worries of everyday life. Did you know that even the famous Ernest Hemingway could not resist the beauty of this small town and its sea? It is even said that the inspiration for “The old man and the sea” came from Acciaroli. This is not certain information but what is undoubted is that this location boasts one of the cleanest sea in Italy. To realize this, try Pollica beach. A record-breaking beach. In fact, it is difficult to find one that has received so many awards. Pollica beach is a real gem, called “the pearl of Cilento”. Spotless and uncontaminated thanks to the work done every year to preserve it. Live it enjoying its unique beauty and don’t forget to take the waste away and leave it as you found it. Getting to Cilento is quick and easy. A few hours by car from Naples and the wonders of this area will open before your eyes.
